motha stewart

Bored waiting at the checkout while some slow-poke ahead of me disputed a double charge, I spotted the Martha Stewart Halloween magazine and quickly picked it up. Un-seasonably early, yes. Featuring fantastically moth-like eyelashes, hell yes. Sometimes I get a little too excited for Halloween. I think I'll be a butterfly this year. Clearly, I’m a Motha Stewart copycat but who cares? It’s so cute! It’s weird to ask in August, but what are you going to dress as? One year I took control of the sewing machine and constructed a mini vampire dress; I kept fake blood in my clutch at the party for the occasional blood-sucking touch-up.  I needed to maintain my rep of getting some. Just kidding! Another year for the playboy mansion party, I splattered coffee on an old bedsheet, ripped it up, burned the edges, and strategically wrapped it around my body for a mummy outfit. Everyone complimented me like crazy.  So much fun! Evidence below-

playlist- my adored demon

My adored demon is pinching my sides with sharp fingers, gripping my lower back with superhero force, and instructing me to indulge in chocolate and Doritos.  She’s complaining that suddenly my bra is a size too small.  She suggests I watch a sad movie for crying purposes only and offers a strong case for finding reasons to be upset with people I normally wouldn’t think twice about.  According to this beautiful monster, everyone is a total idiot; a fact that she will readily expose.  This thing is swimming in a glorious pool of mean and boldness.
Luckily she’ll be gone in three to five days! J I won’t see her face again for at least a month. Her exit feels like a different kind of heaven.  While she’s interesting and intriguing at times, I prefer her in small doses.  In the meantime, I’m offering her this playlist as my condolences for her imminent dismissal. These old favorites are a cozy blanket of self-pity and hot cup of sulking mixed in with the occasional shot of joy.  Sometimes sweet nostalgic music is just the ticket. J

spilling the beans

A woman that I avoid at all costs (take the most inconvenient route to miss her, pretend I’m on the phone, run) will chase me down to exchange “pleasantries.” Historically this forced friendship has consisted of her dishing out back-handed compliments and making inappropriate comments, followed by attempts of concern with offensive personal inquires.  She got a hold of me recently. This time her babbling spilled the beans on the plot in the book I had just started reading and falling in love with.  After I told her I just started reading and falling in love with it.  Seriously.
The book was The Help. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you get on that asap.  It’s truly an amazing novel. Although for the movie I didn’t picture Miss Skeeter to look like Emma Stone, I admire the actress’ red carpet style. I wonder who’s her stylist?

Dress up and act like a grown-up.

Let's consider Prada’s lovely Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection as a top candidate for addressing rule number one: dress up and act like a grown-up. The drop waist, leopard boots paired with demure frocks, mature but fresh approach to her clothes, and unattainable girlishness of these looks embody how I want to look and feel this Fall. My favorites here (although my versions would be faux fur, of course!)

playlist- the hardest button to button

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.
- Ripple by The Grateful Dead.
This may be one of my all-time favorite songs.  Consequently, I placed it as the opening track for this playlist. It makes me happy every time I hear it… what better way to start off your tunes? Wishing you an amazing day!!

aloha island tour

Getting off the plane in Hawaii is reminiscent of when you found out Santa was bogus.  At your arrival the pretty hula girls ready to dress you in leis are absent and a tropical music soundtrack to greet you is missing, even if you are flying first class.  But then you realize that regardless of the existence of that jolly fatty who somehow made it down your chimney, you’re still getting amazing presents. In this case, I was still in a tropical paradise.
This post is intended to offer a little interior design inspiration, highlighting my friend’s homes in Waikiki, the North Shore for a (the-photographer-is-obsessed-with-my-bum) photo shoot, and Maui.  The architecture is very cool and the interior is outfitted primarily in Kreiss furniture. I know this because prior to jetting to the islands we dined at the Kreiss family home in La Jolla and the décor in both places was strikingly similar. I just put two and two together. I'm really smart like that ;-)

First up Waikiki, Oahu.

Now off the the North Shore (Oahu) for a some photos...

now off to maui... this house was the best! although, my pics don't do justice!
