dry and mighty

clean hair is important but so is healthy hair, which means not washing every day. that's tricky if you want it to look so fresh and so clean clean (a la outkast). for LA dwellers it's especially harmful to wash daily since the water here is officially the worst. i recently had my hair colored by the top professionals at Studio LA and got the low down on LA water and it's affect on hair. they were very scientific about it and not getting into the deets but it's no bueno. no bueno at all. to my luck, my friends at ambiance introduced me a perfect solution that saves water, your hair, and time for that matter with their volumizing dry shampoo. it's completely natural (paraben free, alcohol free, sulfate free) and easy to use with the perfectly designed brush that comes attached to the bottle. this lets you control the output and makes each application completely natural looking. since i typically shoot every day, good hair is job requirement so i'm stoked i have this little secret weapon in my back pocket. do you use dry shampoo? check out ambiance here
Here's what the official people say about it:

Ambiance Dry Shampoo cleans hair and absorbs excess oil, leaving hair looking, feeling and smelling freshly shampooed.

Ambiance Volumizing Dry Shampoo contains no alcohol, is non-flammable and will not damage or dry out hair. This formula is for all hair types and is paraben, sulfate and preservative free.

getting graphic

tees that turn iconic designers into skeletons, tees the say thank you, tees that rep your hood... so many graphic tees. they are kind of timeless fashion. i love how they add an instant feeling of playfulness, especially when paired with something sophisticated. (i.e. a floral pencil skirt or pin-striped wide leg trousers). which ones are you currently into? here's some of my faves.

crop it for fall

the spring/summer 2014 shows are not shying away from the crop top. some ladies aren't too stoked on midriff exposure. so what's the solution? layering! and it's perfect for fall. i love the way andy from style scrapbook paired this zara crop top over an american apparel tee. it adds structure to the look and an element of interest to the outfit. what do you think? and below, some photos from the S/S 14 shows at new york fashion week.... cropp top mania! haha. have a good one. xoxo mary

cutout lace

since the cutout trend doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon, it's only natural it's transgressed into other fabrics, such as lace. i'm a fan of lace if it's not too lady-like and has a bit of a grunge edge. the juxtaposition of delicate and badass. thoughts?

street(ish) style

ok, one of these photos is not street style in the slightest. it's actually a pic from zara's recent lookbook. but i'd be happy to make it street style if someone wants to take me out i promise to don one of these sexy slip numbers and have a photo snapped ;-) how good are these slip dresses?  and i couldn't resist including nicole richie in this marc jacobs golden goddess dress. gorgeous! which looks do you like?

play by your own rules

After wrapping today's shoot, I threw on my favorite Rebel Yell baseball-jersey-style t-shirt and felt so blissfully content with it's soft coziness (i'm an addict for anything cozy... clothes, bedding, homes, people ;-) when it occurred to me that i needed to check on the label for fresh gear. I discovered their amazing look book that embodies all that is officially rebel yell: clothes "For the tomboys, the rebels, the girls with tousled hair and torn up tees who play by their own rules." For me, Rebel Yell clothes, which are proudly made in Los Angeles, represent the cool and carefree attitude of the quintessential California girl. Can you dig it?
