summer boots

if i wasn't for the massive heat wave (that fails to cease in the evening) and a way to justify boots in 100 degrees with 90% humidity, i'd be donning this look on the regular. my suede beige boots, in particular, are not only the most comfortable shoes i own, but they are chic any time of the year. being the smart fashion girl that i am, i let my rational side win this internal debate and wear sandals. very cute sandals. until it hits say 75 degrees ;-)

happiness project

without completely realizing it until now, I’ve developed a mini-obsession with gretchen rubin. it started a couple of weeks ago when i had an overwhelming urge to purge my belongings, de-clutter this motherf**ker, and organize like i had a serious case of OCD. on my search for some tips and motivation, i stumbled upon gretchen rubin's "happiness project" youtube series, which claims that "outer order contributes to inner calm." i was hooked. this was my exact intention: to eliminate the inner mess of clutter (by way of the outer) and ignite the spark of creativity. trust me, it works like a charm. my last clutter cleaning birthed a conscious flow of profound expression and i wrote 24 poems in a couple of hours. my fingers typing couldn't keep up with my brain streaming. When i woke up this morning and looked around, on the night stand was rubin's "happiness project" book with her "power money fame sex" close by. the first thing i wanted to do was pick it up and start off where i finished before dosing off last night. it's a very fun mini-obsession! she's smart, authentic, relatable, and a queen of research and legitimacy that teaches in a clever, subtle way. although not directly style related, a messy home or closet is never chic. what projects are you currently working on? who inspires you? for those of you feeling carefree and relaxed today, because after all it is “Sunday Funday,” this one’s for you…. enjoy! have a happy one! xoxo, mary

i'm so excited!!! i can't wait to cheer on Team USA. the opening ceremony is tonight (for my time zone at least) and Stella McCartney gave us a sneak peak of the festivities and her very cool outfit! LOVE HER!

DIY arm candy Part 2

PRESENTING.... the newest addition to my arm party courtesy of the DIY woven bracelet technique. this is by far my most polished piece yet! so excited to wear it!

my intrigue for DIY projects along with my propensity for anything crafty and creative was enough to motivate this cool arm party. the woven chain link bracelet is my special version of this DIY inspired by this one on net-a-porter. i choose a wide linked silver chain with a edgy feel to contrast with the delicate feminine colors. the second simple beaded bracelet is it's new bestie because they look so cute together. i love the white marbled beads, which i stumbled upon at a jewelry show :-) what do you think? i have tons of ideas for playing with this DIY, so stay tuned!

fall 2012's goth girl

the dark mysterious goth girl made an appearance on the versace, alexander wang, and givenchy fall 2012 runways, among others. it's a nice contrast from the bold print on print  trend and brocade pieces that we've seen. I can appreciate the layering of textures. so, what do you think, does this suit your mood?
