designer spotlight: Michael Kors

When is Project Runway coming back? It's my guilty pleasure. In part, my interest is attributed to the brilliance and entertainment value of Michael Kors. I can’t get enough of his hilarious remarks. Some of my favorites:

“It's a little Shirley Mclaine when she played a hooker with a heart of gold."

"If you didn't do that jacket in fleece I would have been like give me a Xanax, I'm asleep."

“Next thing you know, it's big button earrings and you're on The Facts of Life.

I often find myself replaying the judging part so I can hear his witty critiques all over again. Obsessed. Apart from the fact that he has three decades of serious fashion cred and won the 2010 CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award, he should consider comedy as a back-up plan. :-)

In late 2010 Fortune magazine featured a great article about Kors as “Retail’s Next Billion Dollar Man.” The article highlighted Kor's marketing strategy to "go big" in accessories and recent expansion into opening  mid-price ranged retail stores that appeal to a new target market. Both initiatives improve the bottom line. Not everyone can afford $7000 pants. However, if this were the case, I’d definitely recommend this look from his RTW Spring 2011 Collection. The balanced blend of elegant and casual, sporty and sophisticated makes this look easy and mad cool. The effortless hair and makeup that highlights a rosy cheek is perfection. I want to wear this now. Palazzo pants for spring, please.

Remember (as Michael Kors would say): Fashion is not for sissies!
