3.1 Phillip Lim: Sophisticated Youth

Phillip Lim catered to a “sophisticated youth” (i prefer to call it a bad-ass chic youth) by offering styles with effortless cuts and sportswear details. Discarding the over-the-top-prints trend, he mainly opted for solids in muted grays, sorbets, and pastel colors. A nod to the 90’s shows in the likes of cutout sweater dresses, denim vests, and over sized jackets. This is a welcome diversion from the lady-like looks hitting the runways. I like his story and where he’s taking us… I’m in for the ride. You?

The shows are displaying another exciting movement for S/S 2012: print mania and colors. Read: bright neon’s, bold purple prints, fuchsia lips. Rag & Bone, Proenza Schouler, and Prabal Gurung are all in on the game. See for yourself. Does this make you happy or it just me? It also appears that Rag & Bone is drinking the silk-pajamas-for-pants Kool-aid.

floating Spring

MBFW presents a strong case for wearing breathable floating frocks in Spring 2012, as evidenced by The Row and Kimberly Ovitz collections. Mary-Kate and Ashley's impressive pieces from The Row offered Tibet-inspired ethereal looks of satin pajama pants and oversized robes in whites and light colors. Kimberly Ovitz’s dreamy looks featured the occasional color pop in silky lightweight fabrics with flyaway embellishments. I’m into it.
